We all know that drugs and prostitutes go hand in hand, but many Chinese are actually paying prostitutes to take methamphetamine with them – bringing new meaning to the expression “hooked on drugs.” ‘Meth prostitution’s’ soaring popularity has been attributed to the drug’s libido-boosting effects.
‘Meth prostitutes’ are called “Bing Mei,” “hookers who take ice” (slang for meth). The spike in popularity can be attributed to the fact that methamphetamine boosts people’s sexual urges as well as the euphoria felt during the act.
According to one Fujian man, surnamed Hao, his friends thought that taking drugs with girls was better than taking drugs alone. At the beginning, he only looked for high-class call girls. However, seeing how they cost him 2000RMB per night, he started to go cheaper. And that’s when he found “meth prostitutes,” who usually lurked around KTV parlors.
Many “Bing Mei”, start out as KTV servers and bar girls with drug habits. To fuel their addiction, these girls choose to more profitable stripper and prostitute jobs. Some want to be paid directly in drugs, which in some cases, gives rise to the “meth prostitute.”
One Xi’an “Bing Mei” said that initially customers would pay her to take drugs with them, which turned her into a drug addict. And eventually, she would just take the drugs without receiving pay.
Almost every ‘Bing Mei’ inevitably experiences health problems. One said that her body had become weaker, and that she would easily catch a cold and suffer from menstrual disorders and insomnia.
It was reported that nowadays many web-users discuss and share the experience of taking meth on websites and online forums. Methamphetamine paraphernalia is easy to find on many online shopping websites and forums. Some shops claim that they are selling these apparatuses for marijuana, which can easily be modified into a meth flask by adding a pipe and filter.
