A young kindergarten teacher in Hebei province came under fire after she allegedly wrapped one of her student’s head and hands with plastic tape then shared the photos to her friends on WeChat, a popular messaging app in China.
The young woman reportedly teaches at Yu Tian Kindergarten in Hebei’s Langfang city. She’s been accused of wrapping plastic tape around the student’s head, leaving only his eyes and nose exposed. It’s believed that the student was punished and ordered to sit at the corner of the classroom. Despite the child’s apparent agony, the teacher snapped photos of the scene and shared it on her WeChat Moments.
The photo has recently gone viral on Weibo, China’s most popular microblogging website. Netizens were infuriated by the teacher’s behavior and vowed to find her identity via “human flesh search”. Most agreed that such punishment not only physically hurt the child, but also caused a great deal of harm to his vulnerable mindset.
Numerous parents had also complained on Weibo about corporal punishment and the abuse of children by kindergarten teachers. They questioned whether the education department had verified the qualification of applicants while recruiting kindergarten teachers.
This past May, video footage at a kindergarten in Beijing showed a teacher kicking, shoving and screaming at her students. The video surfaced amid a nationwide inspection of schools by the Ministry of Education and the National Health and Family Planning Commission following reported cases of negligence on the behalf of staff at kindergartens throughout China.
