Binbin, the boy who fell victim to a horrific attack in which he lost both of his eyes last August, is now able to perceive images again thanks to a magnetic electronic device he’s been equipped with along training from therapists in Beijing.
The device consists of a pair of sunglasses equipped with a miniature video camera, a controller and a tongue monitor.
After putting the tongue monitor in the mouth, visual images shot by the camera will be converted into electric impulse. The impulse will be transmitted later to the brain and be perceived by the user.
Binbin was discharged from the hospital in December after being successfully fitted with prosthetic eyes. Both of his eyes were tragically gouged out last year by his aunt, who later committed suicide.
