A massive trailer overturned on its side yesterday evening around 6:20 p.m. near the Xiamen exit of the Shenyang-Haikou Expressway after a rear-end accident with a black Mazda sedan.
The big-rig car carrier containing 11 new luxury vehicles including a Maserati, a Porsche and a Land Rover flipped over. No vehicles spilled onto the highway from the trailer, but its driver, surnamed Zhou, was hurt.
According to Zhou, the black car suddenly appeared in front of him when he was driving straight on the highway. Even though he instantly pushed the breaks, he knew it was too late when a big “bang” sound was heard.
The 11 involved vehicles were imported well-known brands worth more than 10 million yuan. They were expected to be delivered from Shanghai to places like Guangdong, Shantou and Guangzhou. Fortunately, the long-distance transport had already been insured prior to the journey.
Several people, including a child on board the black car, were injured. The wounded had been sent to hospital when the reporters arrived at the scene. Gasoline leakage was suspected to be contained.
The highway exit was temporarily closed after the crash. Towing crew spent nearly 2 hours transferring the eleven cars one-by-one onto 2 giant cranes.
