Stackable square watermelons have arrived in Hangzhou!
It is the first time residents in Hangzhou have seen square watermelons in the red flesh. Passersby frequently stop and look at the peculiar addition to the market’s fruit aisle.
These watermelons reportedly are imported from other countries. At room temperature, they keep for 6 months, and are easy to stack and store. To attract Chinese customers, auspicious Chinese sayings are carved on the watermelons.
Square watermelons made their debut in Japan at the turn of the Millennium, and are becoming more popular.
