A 29-year-old man with a described “baby face” was spotted on the streets of Zhengzhou carrying a large sign letting passersby know that he was “all grown up” and looking for a girlfriend.
Geng En-ming, from Henan’s Hua County, was diagnosed with dwarfism in primary school, affecting his growth development and his appearance.
At the age of 23, Geng was a mere 1.42 metres tall with the facial development of a nine-year-old child and the voice of a preteen. At the time, he worked as a parking officer.
After being featured in a news story, a hospital in the outskirts of Zhengzhou tracked Geng down and provided free treatment and physical training for him, extending his height to 1.64 metres.
Geng said his growth gave him a new sense of confidence, and with that, he took on new skills and trained to become an electrician and renovation worker.
Although he was born in 1985 and equipped with many skills, Geng’s young appearance and child-like voice affected his career-search and relationships. Many companies refused to employ him as they were afraid of drawing attention from the labor department. After jumping from job to job in various cities, Geng finally went back to his home place, Zhengzhou, to work as a parking officer.
Geng said he was happy in Zhengzhou with his 2000 RMB income, including accommodations and meals provided by his job, but at the age of 29, he became eager to find a girlfriend.
“I am very satisfied staying in Zhengzhou…but as I am a youngster in my late 20s, I also want to find a girlfriend,” he said.
Geng added that he had been with a woman for a short period of time, but because he had “a very child-like voice which didn’t sound like an adult’s”, the couple broke up.
Geng is still confident he can build a loving relationship with a woman. “If the girl is willing to spend some time with me, I am sure she will get to know my personality,” he said.
