A house thief in Shandong was caught on the spot by the homeowner as he was completely absorbed in reading a book he found in the house, Shangdong TV Satellite reported.
Gu Weiguo said he came home one day to find the two front doors open and a mess inside of his house. He called his relatives over to help him put the stuff back in order, at which point, the thief was spotted hiding in one of the rooms, engrossed in a book.
“When I confronted him, his hand still gripped the book firmly,” Gu said. “I seized the book from him and kept him in control then called the cops right away.”
The thief confessed that he was new to the city and was looking for a job.
“I saw no one in the house, so I went inside,” he told police. “Later, I found this very good book about the Han Dynasty, which is my favorite subject, and then started to read.”
At least he didn’t fall asleep in the owner’s bed.
