A six-year-old boy in Fujian was found to have run away from home after his father allegedly hit him with an iron and burned him with cigarettes because he was “naughty”, according to Oriental Daily.
The boy, Yang Yong, was found with 27 cigarette burns on his body and bruises on his left leg. He was sent to the Zhangzhou City Social Welfare Institute after he’d attempted to run away from home.
“Yang is more thoughtful and compatible than other kids here. He can take good care of himself,” said a staff member from the institute surnamed Jian.
Yang was described as an “independent boy” who looked after his two younger sisters.
Yang Dehwa, the boy’s father, was informed of his son’s whereabouts but refused to take him home, citing excuses such as a runaway wife and a lack of money to take care of the boy.
