A video posted on Facebook showing a mainland mother allowing her daughter to squat down and pee on the Hong Kong metro was shared by almost 4000 users on Facebook in only 21 hours and has once again prompted online exchange between web users over mainland vs Hong Kong residents’ public behavior.
The video lasts for around two and a half minutes and shows the girl crouching down next to her mom and peeing while surrounded by commuters. Voices can be heard from nearby passengers making commentary such as, “Ahh…it’s all over the ground”. Another rider can be heard calling the situation “nonsense”. The mother felt embarrassed and cleaned the floor with toilet paper.
Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway (MTR) stated they did not receive complaints about the above incident and emphasized that 41 washrooms are available in the stations upon request. They also urged passengers to keep clean on the train and avoid interfering with others. Follow-up investigation be carried out by MTR staff if passengers feel the need to report it.
Although the responses given by passengers were negative, the top web comment said: “They are better than many mainlanders…at least they wiped off the mess.”
