A series of vending machines have gone into service in Zhengzhou, Henan province, allowing customers to get free condoms with the swipe of an ID card.
One machine carries 80 boxes, with each box containing 10 condoms. Downside: Only citizens aged 18 to 60 can get access to the condoms with their ID cards. Sorry grandpas. Also, customers can only get one box per month.
All personal information is transferred to the national health and family planning authorities with the first name and middle part of the ID number concealed, according to Liu Tinglan from the municipal health and family planning bureau.
The ID-card-scanning vending machines are meant to promote safe sex for those unwilling to dole out the tremendously pricey one yuan per condom as previously sold at vending machines.
Let’s just hope there wasn’t a quality cut.
