Leung Chai-yan, daughter of Hong Kong Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying, openly criticized her mother Tong Ching-yee via status update on Facebook yesterday, writing: “Courage and loyalty are the virtues I value the most. My mother embodies the exact opposites of both.”
Last month, the 22-year-old law student at London School of Economics posted images to Facebook showing what appeared to be her, sitting in a bathtub with slashed wrists. She later cited problems with her mother as the reason for her self-harm.
Just three hours before the mom-bashing status update went up yesterday, Leung had posted an old family photo showing her as a child with her parents during a trip to Europe. Feeling “nostalgic”, she seemed to have forgotten when the picture was taken as she added the hashtag “#1998?”.
The cryptic update, which was open to the public, had resulted in speculations and heated discussions online.
When questioned about the status by media, the Chief Executive’s Office gave “no response“.
