Littering is bad. Shenzhen officials decided to really drive this point home by lining a 200-meter walkway in the Bao’an district with 150 trans bins, leaving little room for residents to litter even if they tried.
The owner of a nearby factory called for the bins to be placed in between each bench lined along the street, in what’s been dubbed “a battle line of bins”.
The manager of the factory explained that placing an excessive number of bins in the street was a way to promote the good habit of throwing trash away.
Citizens, however, failed to see the purpose. They complained that placing 150 rubbish bins in such a short street was a waste of money, and probably more of an eyesore than the litter itself.
