A Nanjing thief sparked awe/confusion when he stole 24 bus stops in one night leaving only the benches. Yeah, we didn’t know you could steal a bus stop either.
The stolen bus stops were located on a newly-built main road called Jiang Bei Da Dao in Nanjing. 24 out of 25 bus stops which cost about 1.4 million RMB in total were stolen overnight on Monday. The thief was suspected of using a glass-cutting machine to remove them before loading them onto a heavy-duty and driving away. Only the benches remained, surrounded by craters in the ground where the stops had been ripped out by the roots
According to authorities, as the road was still under construction with no traffic lights or street lamps present, passers-by who saw the bus stops being stolen would have probably thought it was part of the construction.
The Nanjing Bus Stop Company has already reported the issue to the police and said that the bus stops would be replaced soon. Police said that they will patrol the area frequently from now on.
Investigators have yet to discover what the robber was actually going to use the bus stops for. We’re just waiting to see what implausible thefts he’s going to pull off next: airplane hangars, swimming pools, the road leading up to the Zhongnanhai.
