Authorities thought the fate of a 38-year old Taiwan man was sealed after he was shot outside a restaurant. However, when they inspected him at the hospital, they discovered that the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 phone he kept in his chest pocket had blocked the bullet, saving his life, Apple Daily reports. Looks like we can add ‘body armor’ to the endless list of Smartphone functions.
Han went to a restaurant with his friends and snagged a wallet belonging to Xu, a 46-year-old man from another table. When Han asked to find the owner so he could “treat everyone beers,” Xu grew angry and a fight broke out.
The furious pair then went outside and drew weapons; Han a sickle and Xu a modified firearm. Xu shot Han in the chest, whereupon he fled the scene. He was later sent to hospital by his friend. Xu fled after the shooting.
When police arrived at the hospital, they discovered that Han had instinctively thrown up his left arm to protect himself. The bullet had miraculously passed through his arm without damaging any bones, before lodging in his Samsung phone.
Xu later surrendered. The police stated that Xu had intended to kill Han by shooting him in 2 -3 meters. Fortunately his modified gun was not powerful as a normal one.
