Villagers in Luoyang secretly moved a bus stop 300 meters away from a transport interchange to the exit of the village to make it more convenient for themselves.
The bus stop stand for bus No. 84 was originally located under the high speed railway bridge in Luoyang’s Luolong District, and served as a transport interchange between Ge Dang village and Xiao Zuo village. One day, however, it was discovered that the stand had been uprooted and moved about 300 metres west, just outside Ge Dang village. A big hole was all that remained in the original position.
To seal the deal, residents who moved the stand used cement to anchor it in its new position so that it couldn’t be moved back to its old spot.
While the move brought convenience to the villagers in Ge Dang village, residents in Xiao Zuo village weren’t quite as pleased with the new arrangements.
“Although this place is the exit of one village, it’s not at an equal point between the two villages. It has brought inconvenience to many villagers who want to take bus,” one such resident said.
A staff member from Luoyang Bus Company said that the issue wasn’t uncommon in villages, as most residents like to walk as little as possible to reach the bus stop. He added that the company had notified the bus drivers to stop at the original location but most just stopped at the new spot nonetheless, as many people stood there waiting.
“The act of bringing convenience to a small number of people but causing troubles to the majority of people is really very selfish,” one resident vented angrily.
The manager of the Luoyang Bus Company said that, surprisingly, this isn’t the first case of its kind. “There were many people secretly taking the bus stop stands for buses from Luoyang to Jili District and placing them outside their homes for the sake of convenience,” he said.
