Ma Dengjun from Weiqiao county, Shandong province, retired from the army in 1990 and had his legs amputated at the hips after an accident in 1994 that also left him paralyzed because of a broken cervical vertebra*. Instead of imposing a handicap on the man, Ma was actually more motivated to see his business dreams come true.

Following his accident, Ma conquered his pain physically and mentally and soon started to make a living by himself. After he gained some experience and accumulated some wealth by selling cell phones and electronic products, running an internet cafe and doing logistic business, he established a sports equipment company in 2011.
His company recruited dozens of villagers to work for him. In recent years, his products have sold very well in nearby cities.

Ma devoted his spare time and money to helping disabled children in the village. Chen Xueyin, a 28-year-old resident, broke his thoracic vertebra when he graduated from college. Ma often visited him and encouraged him by sharing his own life experience and business experience. Currently, Chen is able to walk with the assistance of his crutches, and Ma has helped him to open his own Taobao shop.
