It’s out of the frying pan and into the ‘brick oven’ for Papa John’s, who after being involved in the expired meat scandal that rocked Western fast food in China, is now being investigated for using ‘expired dough.’
The Nanjing outlet responsible for the ‘crusty’ scandal, was promptly shuttered by the company head after the discovery. Papa John’s insisted that the scandal didn’t extend beyond the specific branch. However, at this point, we won’t be surprised if a new incident surfaces in the near future, as Chinese food scandals seem a lot like cockroaches: where there’s one, there’s bound to be more.
Hopefully this won’t prove the final straw for the Chinese market, lest Papa John’s ‘dough’ go stale in more ways than one.
