A man who crashed his car into a line of vehicles in Pudong yesterday, seriously injuring another driver, is believed to have jumped to his death from the ninth floor of a nearby hotel, Shanghai Daily reports.
According to witness accounts, the man crashed his Audi into a line of cars waiting at a traffic light around 6:45 a.m. yesterday morning.
The driver of a van carrying watermelons was knocked unconscious in the crash and taken to the hospital with multiple fractures to his shoulders and chest.
The driver of the Audi, a man in his 30s, reportedly got out of his car and began ‘shouting and acting strangely’ before he fled the scene, according to a witness cited in the report.
About half an hour later, a man who matched the description of the Audi driver was seen entering a Holiday Inn Express hotel near the crash. Police and witnesses said he took a lift up to the ninth floor in his bare feet, then jumped to his death.
Police are still investigating whether the driver and the suicide victim are the same person.
