A 55-year-old suspected self-immolator was found rushing into the Hunan provincial government building. It’s believed that he poured gasoline on his body and ignited himself before government staff put out the fire for him, Oriental Daily reports.
The police revealed that the injured man, surnamed Zhao, is a resident of the Yuwu district. They are currently looking into the case and investigating the motive behind his act.
According to the photos uploaded by an Internet user, a banner was hung outside the building reading something about “land”. Government officials, however, denied that it had anything to do with land acquisition.
Forced evictions as a result of government-ordered demolitions have in the past led residents to resort to extreme forms of protest.
