An adorable little freak piglet with four extra limbs was recently born in Fushou, Chongqing province, mostly likely due to a gene mutation, Oriental Daily reports.
Tang, the owner, said that eight piggies were born last Saturday and good ol’ “eight-leg” was the third oldest. He didn’t realize anything was wrong until his wife told him a “six-legged monster” had been born. He ran to have a look at it, finding it actually was born with eight legs.
Tang said the piglet has two 3-4cm legs on its stomach and another two 7-8cm legs behind. The larger two legs with bones are not able to move, so the piglet just drags them on the ground. Aw.
Guo Zongyi, Director of Chongqing Academy of Animal Sciences Pig Research Institute, said that such a case is extremely rare. Pigs with five legs are commonly seen, although the fifth leg usually grows from one of the other legs. He said that the extra four limbs were likely the result of inbreeding or genetic mutation.
He stressed that the likelihood for such an abnormal piglet to live is low. Strangely, he added that the little guy may be bit by other pigs due to its uncommon appearance.
Shine on, eight-leg.
