A 76-year-old victim of the Yunnan earthquake refused to receive any treatment from medical teams, insisting that such care should be reserved for the young, Oriental Daily reports.
The man, named Zheng Falin, was rescued from wreckage by his 45-year-old son Zheng Yonggui. Near death, the man refused to be sent for treatment.
“I am an old man and these life-saving chances should be kept for the young. They have greater hope for survival,” he said.
Staff with a medical team gave Zheng basic treatment following his rescue and suggested that he leave the village for further care. Their suggestion, however, was rejected by the stubborn elderly man.
After hours of persuasion by his family and medical staff, Zheng finally agreed to be lifted out of the village to seek further treatment.
His condition now is unknown.
