Shanghai’s most charming conman managed to dupe five women into giving him 1.2 million yuan, Shanghai Daily reports.
The 37-year-old suspect, surnamed Meng, strung the women along with promises of marriage and had even fathered children with two of them.
He told police that he came up with the scheme while browsing online matchmaking sites.
In one case, he met a woman while pretending to be a graduate of Beijing Foreign Studies University. They started dating in 2011 and the woman got knocked-up not long after.
Meng borrowed 320,000 yuan from the woman for a project which he said had encountered financial problems. She gave birth to their child in January 2012, and reportedly never saw him again after August of that year.
During this relationship, Meng had been seeing another woman, who also became pregnant in 2011.
She reported him to the police, claiming that he conned 30,000 yuan from her.
Officers said he’d managed to swindle at least three more women between 2011 and 2013, collecting a total of 1.2 million yuan from all five.
This Shanghai playboy could learn a lesson.
