Looks like those Somali pirate masks sported by Qingdao beach-goers might have sparked a global fashion trend! ‘Facekinis’ recently made their debut in CR Fashion Book, a magazine started by Carine Roitfed, former Editor in Chief of French Vogue!
Facekinis first gained popularity online in 2012, when a pic of Facekini-wearing beach-goers was selected as one of Time Magazine’s most amazing photos of the year. The term, “Facekini” was coined by the English media.
Netizens expressed their pride over “the Facekini” saying, “I can justifiably wrap up my body at the beach.” A TV station joked that the “Facekini” was the third biggest trend started by China’s ‘grannies’ after purchasing gold and dancing in plazas.
Let’s just hope CR Fashion Book doesn’t release an issue featuring split-back pants or pajamas that you can wear in broad daylight.
