Chinese actor Deng Chao, Taiwan-based singer Leehom Wang and Hong Kong actor Andy Lau all participated in the event
A number of celebrities across Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China took part in the “Ice Bucket Challenge,” a charity effort that goes towards the ALS Association in the United States.
The purpose of the challenge is to raise awareness about patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The challenge is meant to raise fund for the ALS Association, and videos showing celebrities taking part have gone viral on social media.
According to the rules, someone who has been challenged must record themselves accepting the challenge, pouring ice into a bucket, then dumping it over his or her head while calling out challenges to at least 3 other people.
Another requirement says that participants must make a donation of at least USD10 if they accept the challenge and USD100 if they do not.
According to ALS Association, donations from the Ice Bucket Challenge have so far reach USD 22.9 million.
