A man in Xi’an, Shaanxi province who spent 5,000 yuan on what he believed was a purebred husky recently learned that the animal was actually a white fox.
Global Times reports that the man, surname Zhu, discovered his pet’s true identity after he took it to a local animal protection station.
He said he’d bought the animal about a year ago from a street vendor (surprise). He became suspicious, however, when he noticed that the “dog” was a picky eater. Oh, and it never barked.
His friends often told him that his pet looked like a fox. As its narrow muzzle and long, fluffy tail began maturing, he decided to take their word for it.
“I wasn’t willing to let it go at first because I’ve taken care of it for such a long time,” said Zhu.
“I caged it for a few days before sending it to the wildlife zoo,” he told reporters.
