A man in Guangzhou, Guangdong province was detained by cops after he hopped in the driver’s seat of an empty city bus and took it for a joyride the only way that one should take a stolen city bus for a joyride: shirtless.
Police took the suspect, a 25-year-old man surnamed Zou, into custody after he stole the BRT bus parked at a terminal. The vehicle was empty but the driver had left the keys inside, according to the Global Times.
Shirtless Zou managed to drive for about three kilometers before police on motorcycles pulled him over. He then jumped out of the bus and attempted to make a getaway by foot, running for about 400 meters before officers caught up and apprehended him.
Zou rationally explained that he stole the bus because he couldn’t afford bus fare an was too tired to walk. He saw the bus on the side of the road and took it for a half-naked ride.
He was arrested on charges of endangering public safety.
