Looks like not everyone is so enamored with the ASL Ice Bucket Challenge, despite its multitude of celebrity participants. Residents in drought-stricken Lushan county, Henan province, have begun demonstrating against the event, complaining that it’s wasting valuable water, according to Tencent News.
Dozens of residents gather in front of the Zhongyuan Buddha bearing various empty receptacles and chanting, “we want to drink water”!
The above sign reads, “Henan, please say ‘NO’ to Ice Bucket Challenge”. The protesters advocate helping ASL patients in other ways.
Hong Kong doctors have also criticized the “Ice Bucket Challenge”, but for health reasons, South China Morning Post.
The Hong Kong Medical Association says the Ice Bucket Challenge could have serious consequences for participants from vulnerable groups, including the elderly, expectant mothers, people with heart conditions and those suffering from high blood pressure.
