After growing her hair out for 15 years, a 38-year-old woman in Shenzhen is now seeking someone to buy her two-meter-long locks in hopes to donate all the money to a middle school in Ningxia, Tencent News reports.
The long-haired lady, surnamed Xiao, has lived in Shenzhen for over ten years. She’s been growing her hair out for the past 15 years. She told reporters that she decided to put her hair up for auction online when she learned of students’ poor schooling environment in Ningxia. The deadline for bids was today, and as of yesterday, the highest bidding price was up to 10,000 yuan.
Xiao said that nine years ago, someone wanted to purchase her hair for a hefty price of 20,000 yuan. At that time, her hair was down to her calves.
“I didn’t grow my long hair until I entered university, since female students weren’t allowed to grow long hair in high school,” she said. “My hair grew very fast and I remember once when I got up to use the bathroom, my waist-long hair scared many of my schoolmates. Later, I dared not to walk on the street wearing my hair loose, in fear of scaring people.”
Xiao said she didn’t use special chemical products in her hair, but just left it to grow naturally. She’d occasionally get it trimmed at the salon, and the hairdresser would jokingly tell her: “When I trim your hair, I have to crawl on the floor.” Eventually she began using a stool to prop up the hair so the hairdresser could squat and trim.
Mrs. Xiao is seen showing her beautiful long hair.
Xiao said she has to spend 10 minutes combing and another hour washing her long locks. If it rains, it takes almost a whole day to dry her hair.
Before she sleeps, she braids her hair so that it doesn’t become tangled overnight.
“When I was younger, my hair grew really fast. Because it’s so long, I often accidentally step on it and break some strands, that’s why it’s thinner at the end.”
