Residents from a village in Foshan, Guangdong province began finding dozens of poisonous snakes slithering around the area after one of their neighbors carelessly “lost” 150 of the reptiles, Apple Daily reports. And no, he’s surprisingly not related to this woman.
It is reported that dozens of small snakes around 20 centimeters in length have been spotted and caught by the villagers. One such resident said he’d first discovered the snakes last week, when two kids came out from an alley screaming that they’d just kicked one of the things.
The resident didn’t think much of it until he found more snakes the following week. He and other villagers found them dangerous, and eventually discovered that they’d been carelessly released by a family in the village.
Another resident said that the snakes hid in walls and alleys, appearing around 2:00 p.m. every day. No injuries are reported so far.
A six-member snake committee has been set up to catch the reptiles in shifts.
The original owner, surnamed Zhong, admitted that he purchased 150 small snakes for wine-making and found them missing one day.
The committee and other villagers have so far caught around 70 snakes, and Zhong caught around 30 snakes.
Some 50 snakes still roam the village.
