A pregnant woman who went into sudden labor at the Yibin Nanmun Bridge in Sichuan province was helped by passersby who surrounded her with colorful umbrellas as a makeshift “delivery room”, Tencent News reports. The woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl thanks to the assistance of the passersby and doctors.
A CCTV camera nearby recorded the touching scene on the rainy day when Luo Runzhen and her daughter were on their way to the doctor for a prenatal checkup. Luo began experiencing intense stomach pains as they walked near an ATM on Nanmun Bridge.
She bent down, put her hand on her stomach and suddenly began giving birth as her daughter sought help from people nearby.
Luo was soon encircled by passersby, who held out their umbrellas to form a “delivery room” to protect the mother and her newborn. They encouraged Luo to hang in there, as a doctor was on the way.
Both Luo and her baby arrived safely at the hospital. The premature baby girl weighed only 4.6 pounds, and is currently being cared for by hospital staff.
