A 19-year-old student in Shanghai was detained after his grandfather was stabbed to death and his mother seriously injured during a family dispute on Tuesday, Shanghai Daily reports.
The 19-year-old suspect, surnamed Bian, lived with his parents and grandparents in an apartment on Tongxin road. After receiving a report, police arrived at the family’s home to find Bian’s grandfather dead and his mother heavily bleeding.
Bian was held and his mother, who sustained wounds to her head, neck, arm and abdomen, was rushed to the Shanghai No. 411 Hospital of the People’s Liberation Army.
A neighbor cited in the report said he heard weak cries for help as he was waiting for the elevator around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and when he returned two hours later, he heard the cries again and realized something was wrong.
Around that time, Bian’s father came home and discovered the scene.
Witnesses say they saw Bian smiling as he was escorted out of the apartment by police. Relatives who spoke out after the incident described him as “a good boy”.
