A Bengal tiger at the Shanghai zoo ran off with a woman’s handbag after she dropped it into the enclosure while trying to get the animal’s attention. The handbag contained loan receipts worth more than 100,000 RMB, Apple Daily reports.
The woman, who was visiting from Zhejiang province, said she tried to scare the tiger away after she dropped her bag, but the large feline took it in its mouth and carried it off for fun.
He, an official from the zoo, said that the woman reported the loss to police at 5:00 p.m., at which point, zoo staff members were already off work. He added that the employees were not able to make direct contact with the tiger that day.
The next day, a zoo official managed to divert the tiger to another location so that the bag could be retrieved.
The woman said her bag contained clothes, debit cards and loan receipts documenting over 100,000 RMB that she’d lent to others.
