The death toll from a landslide that ravaged a village in Fuquan city, Guizhou province has climbed to 15, Xinhua reported today.
The accident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday when half of a 600-meter-high knoll broke free and “wiped out a majority of the village,” according to the report.
Rescuers are still searching for survivors in the devastation that destroyed a total of 77 houses and injured another 22 people Most of the residents were children or elderly.
Soil erosion affects around 42 percent of the province, leaving it prone to accidents. Earlier this month, neighboring Yunnan province was hit by a 6.1-magnitude earthquake that killed over 600 people.
