A pprocuratorate in Xi’an, Shaanxi province pressed a case against a man accused of pouring sulfuric acid on his ex-girlfriend’s face in an attempt to disfigure her then ‘win her back,’ Global Times reports.
The suspect, surnamed Wang, admitted to splashing acid on the woman’s face after she broke up with him so that other men would reject her and she’d have to return to him.
The victim, surnamed Zhang, suffered from secondary chemical burns to her right eye and has been left severely scarred after the attack.
Wang reportedly proposed to Zhang shortly after the two met in August of last year. After she refused him, Wang on more than one occasion planned violent attacks aimed at disfiguring his ex.
In January, he allegedly hired a man to throw boiling water on Zhang’s face, and when it fell through, he attempted to attack her a few days later with battery acid, but also failed.
