Eight people have been reported dead and 24 missing after torrential rain fell across northeastern Chongqing, Tencent News reports.
Wuxi and Yunyang Counties saw different levels of disaster. Rainfall in Wuxi accumulated to 132.6 mm, causing flooded roads and the submersion of a new water park in the area.
Communication signals were temporarily out of service until Sept 1.
Tan Changde, head of Yunyang County, said eight were killed, and one body was found in the flood.
Another seven people died in landslides that struck the area. A total of 24 people are still missing, including 11 coal miners from Yongfa Mine and residents of Nanxi County.
