Early this morning, workers topped off the 543-meter Lujiazui skywalk, an overhead pathway that will alleviate ground traffic congestion by connecting the Line 2 Lujiazui metro stop to the Shanghai IFC mall, Jin Mao Tower, and other landmark buildings.
The recently completed skywalk offers a more pedestrian-friendly environment for metro passengers who are currently forced to traverse heavy lanes of traffic to reach Lujiazui’s iconic buildings such as the Jin Mao Tower, Shanghai IFC mall, and the Shanghai World Trade Center. Once the skywalk opens in February, pedestrians can walk directly from the station through the second floor corridor to reach the commercial buildings.
Made from steel, the 3,500-ton skywalk measures 543 meters in length and 9 meters in width. The final steel box girder installed earlier today weighed 40 tons.
Construction is currently underway on the skywalk’s second floor landing area and is slated for completion before the 2015 Spring Festival.
