Two of the three men who escaped from a prison in Heilongjiang province on Tuesday were recaptured following a massive manhunt carried out by 1,000 police.
Shanghai Daily reported this morning that Li Haiwei, 29, and Gao Yulun, 50, were seen at around 8:00 p.m. yesterday in the Yushan village of Yanshou county. Police said that Li was apprehended but Gao managed to evade capture.
Xinhua is now reporting that the other escaped convict, Wang Damin, 35, has also been captured.
It’s unclear whether the men were found because of a tip-off. Authorities on Tuesday offered reward of 100,000 yuan per fugitive for any information leading to their whereabouts, which was later raised to 150,000 when the Ministry of Public Security added the three to its most-wanted list.
Over 1,000 police offers joined the hunt for the men, each of whom was armed, according to the Daily.
Li, Gao and Wang escaped from a detention center just outside of Harbin after killing a guard. The three were seen walking out of the facility dressed in police uniform.
Gao was being held at the detention center while his death penalty for homicide was reviewed. Li was awaiting sentencing for murder and Wang for intentional injury.
