Residents walking around the west wing of the Dongfanghong Square in Lanzhou got a big surprise yesterday afternoon when a giant LED screen above the Lanzhou Gymnasium displayed pornographic images…for a good 12 minutes.
As soon as security guards on duty realized what was happening (or maybe a few minutes after), they cut off the electricity and found the person responsible, media reports said.
It turns out that the guy controlling the screen content, a worker surnamed Wang, clicked on a QQ page when he was viewing an advertisement, resulting in the x-rated images popping up on the big screen. He was handed 15 days of detention and ordered to pay a 3,000 yuan fine for the dirty deed.
Later that evening, staff from the Lanzhou Gymnasium apologized to the public for their neglect of duty which was unfortunately broadcasted on a 26-meter-wide, 10-meter-tall LED screen.
Last year, a similar mistake occurred in Zhongshan and lasted for 20 minutes.
