The Beijing FDA has deemed eight bottle water brands unsafe to consume after they were found to have excess amounts of yeast and bacteria. Topping the list were C’est Bon and Wahaha – which we’re starting to think is named after the evil laughs the executives make while thinking about the fortune they make selling so many tainted foodstuffs.
The lesser-known companies entailed Nanquanhe (Southern Spring River), Longquanxiagu (Dragon Spring Ancient Gorge), Jixing (Lucky Star), Tuxing (Picture Shape), Saibing (Competitive Ice), and Shuizhuangyuan (Water Champion). According to the Nanfang Insider, all eight brands were pulled from the shelves, while Wahaha and C’est Bon have promised full refunds to all customers returning their products.
This incident marks a major fall from grace (and likely profits) for Wahaha, which was the 9th most-chosen food brand in China last year.
