A 12-year-old boy who failed to finish his homework over the three-day Mid-autumn Festival holiday attempted to avoid punishment from his mom by perching out on the 11th floor ledge of their apartment building in Yibing city, Sichuan province yesterday morning. It took firemen over two hours to get the boy back inside, People’s Daily reports.
Xiao Kai (alias), a student at the Yibing Middle School, was first spotted outside the building by a security guard named Luo, who was on a routine patrol around the complex. Shocked, Luo ran to call the cops.
According to police, Xiao Kai’s mother woke him up to do his homework at around 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning, but the boy ignored her and continued sleeping so that he could finish the work later. Fearful of his mother’s scolding, he shut himself in his bedroom. His mom then went to get a key to open the door, at which point, he climbed out the bedroom window and perched on the ledge outside.
“When we arrived at Xiao Kai’s home, his mother was worried about the kid’s safety, and tried a few times to drag him back to the house, but to no avail,” said Luo.
At the beginning, Xiao Kai declined to go back inside or talk with anyone at the scene. When he saw firemen try to reach him, he backed further away on the ledge.
After a good two hours of persuasion from police, relatives and classmates, Xiao Kai ultimately agreed to go into the arms of the policemen, who fastened the safety rope to secure him.
