A male-to-female transgender patient awaiting sex reassignment surgery flew to Thailand last Saturday for the initial operation, according to Jinghua Times’ Weibo.
Jiang Weihao told reporters that she stopped wearing men’s clothes last October. Before that, she’d been a pole dancing coach in Beijing for two years and in the evening, she danced at night clubs under the alias Jiang Yaxi.
Jiang said that she uses “feminine” pictures and a female identity on all social media websites. Many male friends often ask her out to pubs or clubs, but sometimes, she dresses in women’s clothes and goes to clubs by herself. Jiang said she knows why men ask her out but she never tries to tell them her ‘real’ gender.
“It’s very pleasant at the time, what’s the good in revealing the truth?” said Jiang. She said she meets them just to pass time and show off her makeup skills.
After one year of experimenting, Jiang is confident about going through with the sex reassignment operation.
When Jiang was five years old, she became aware of her differences from other boys. She didn’t share the same interests with other boys. Many of her classmates mocked her by calling her “ladyboy” and “sissy”, but she eventually grew used to it.
Jiang was raped by three men when she was 12 years old, and since then, she says she’s hated men and hated being a man.
Jiang’s life-long dream is to become a woman and if she can’t make this dream come true, she said her life will be meaningless.
“My thinking may be selfish. My parents gave me life, but I have my rights to choose how to live,” said Jiang.
At first, Jiang’s family found it hard to accept her decision to go through with the operation. Her father consulted a doctor to find out more about it.
“I want my child live [her] life continually, I don’t want [her] to kill [herself],” Jiang’s father told reporters. Jiang’s parents said they will visit her when she comes back from Thailand.
