A video showing the climax of a fight on a street in Beijing is blowing up on Youku. It’s got all the elements you want: Local/laowai tensions, some hysterical screaming and cursing, BMW drivers living up to their stereotype, and even a little whipping.
The whole thing began, according to Fawan News via Sohu, on September 6 in Beijing’s Chaoyang District at 8:30 p.m. A taxi stopped abruptly (that never happens) in front of a woman driving a BMW. The woman was not pleased. In order to show the taxi driver the error of his ways, she drove in front of the taxi and parked, as the taxi picked up a foreign man and his companion.
The woman launched into an argument with the taxi driver and soon the foreigner got involved. From there, things really escalated quickly and the man kicked the woman’s BMW–though the taxi driver said it wasn’t much of a kick. The woman then started to attack the foreigner. Witnesses maintain that the foreigner kept his cool and tried to leave, but the woman was not about to let that happen and latched on to the man’s bag.
Here’s where the video picks up and gives the whole affair that little extra crazy it needs. The foreigner is able to wrestle the bag away from the woman, but drops some things in the fracas. The woman sees her opportunity and takes full advantage–striking the foreigner with a belt while cursing.
Onlookers described the woman as “a little over-the-top.”
The video is up to 1.74 million views on YouKu:
The next day the reporter learned that the issue really escalated because of that troublesome language barrier and the two parties had settled privately. The man is really just lucky that the taxi didn’t stop in front of a crazy driver carrying a real weapon.
