If you’re taking the train for Golden Week, brace yourself. The China Railway Corporation (CRC) reports that train ticket sales hit record highs last Friday, with a whopping 9.69 million tickets sold.
If ticket sales are any indication, the holiday travel crowds may be busier than ever during Golden Week, a semi-annual weeklong national holiday.
The CRC said that 55.8 percent of tickets were sold online and 10.8 percent were sold by mobile phone.
Ticket sales kicked off on September 9, 20 days ahead of Golden Week, which starts Wednesday, October 1.
According to Xinhua news, an average of 8.32 million tickets were sold per day between September 9 and September 13–that’s 1.19 million more than in the same period last year.
Just another reason to stay put. For the love of god, stay put.
