Award-winning filmmaker Wang Quan’an has been detained in Beijing for engaging in ‘lewd acts’ with a prostitute, while his model/actress wife was overseas at New York Fashion Week.
Wang admitted to soliciting sex from multiple women for three days in a row, supposedly paying the last prostitute 800 yuan. According to his statement, he also allegedly had sex with two women at the same time. Wang, along with six other sex workers and an 18-year-old pimp, are being held for further questioning.
The director cum adulterer (word choice intentional, duh) is known for his films Tuya’s Marriage, which won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival, and the controversial White Deer Plain. The 41-year-old filmmaker is married to 28-year-old actress and model Zhang Yuqi, who was attending New York Fashion Week at the time of the infidelity. On her Sina Weibo account, she acknowledged that she and her husband would “face [the scandal] together.”
Poor Wang got caught up in the current celebrity crack down on all things “immoral,” joining emotional pothead Kai Ko and Jackie Chan’s son. Wang will likely spend a maximum of 15 days in jail and pay a fine, paired with penitentiary education—helping Wang control where he sticks his, um, wang.
