For her summer vacation, one nine-year-old girl decided to do more than just lay out on the beach, so she embarked on a seven-province journey, walking or hitchhiking the entire way, according to yzdsb.com.
Liu Zimo, from Handan, Hebei Province covered nearly 4,000 km in 24 days during her trip, making all of us wannabe backpackers feel really inadequate along the way. Check out some of the places she visited on this map from CCTV.
Liu’s father accompanied her during the journey to keep an eye on her (though we think she could have looked after herself just fine). Her father let Liu lead. She asked for directions and rides, chose what to eat and where to sleep. So we’re assuming they mostly had ice cream.
Things were tough at the beginning, especially asking for her first ride. “I was so embarrassed when asking for a free ride the first time, but the driver readily agreed!” she said.
Her father said that soon she wasn’t shy about asking and even became adept at chatting with strangers. In total, they hitchhiked 37 times.
The journey hit a snag during their final leg in Guizhou province when Liu came down with a high fever. Her father was scared and wanted to end early, but she refused and persevered.
