A newborn baby who was abandoned and later found on a dirty riverbank in Dongguan amid rain and strong winds brought on by Typhoon Kalmaegi managed to pull through and is now in stable condition.
The baby, who was found naked and bruised with sand in his mouth, was rushed to the hospital after being spotted by a woman around 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sina reports.
”The little buddy is very strong,” a local police officer involved in the case said. “Because he was born the night before typhoon Kalmaegi hit, [we] named him Haiou [“seagull” in Chinese].”
Kalmaegi made landfall in Hainan province after tearing through Hong Kong and the Philippines, with winds blowing at an incredible 160 kilometers per hour along the southern coast of Hong Kong. Around 90,000 people were evacuated from Hainan’s coast before the typhoon hit.
