A news anchor in India was fired after she referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping as “Eleven Jinping”, seemingly mixing up his surname with the roman numerals XI. This is probably the most out-of-the-box mangling of his name yet.
The newsreader unfortunately lost her job over the blooper, which aired on Doordarshan News during an early morning bulletin on Tuesday, just before Xi’s arrival in India with the first lady.
“It is an unpardonable mistake,” a senior official at the state-run news channel said. “We have debarred her from newsreading for a few months.”
The anchor had been hired as a ‘casual’ newsreader, the official said, meaning she was only called in when the regular anchors weren’t available. We’re kind of thinking neither she, nor Xi, are too broken up about the whole blunder.
Anyways, there’s already all these choices of name manipulation working against him.
