Hong Kong marine police headed off a speedboat bound for the mainland yesterday and found 138 new-model iPhones onboard, according to Sina News.
The new iPhone is China’s new Holy Grail: Men have rented out their girlfriends for money to pay for it. Many have played Mahjong while waiting for it. With the release date in China still undetermined, desperate buyers have to resort to underground measures.
This is great news for the Chinese black market. According to Metro, some analysts foresee that more than five million iPhones will pass through the black market into China before the official release date. Seizing 138 seems like a pretty futile endeavor now, huh?
Of course, smuggling iPhones from Hong Kong and into China, where they fetch enormous prices, has been done a few million times before, and sometimes people get caught for our amusement. One creative group tried a fishing line across the border. Another just decided to keep it simple and strap some across their waist and walk on in.
There they are. In all their enormous glory.
