Images of the Beijing streets this morning, via Xinhua, show a surprising amount of cars on what is claimed to be World Car-Free Day. The pictures, showing traffic congestion on the Second Ring Road, leave little space for anything but automobiles.
Beijing typically ranks as one of the worst—if not the worst—city for commuters, though Shanghai ranked at the top in a survey conducted earlier this year. Still, it’s not like Shanghai has had a woman die because the ambulance was stuck in traffic for 40 minutes. Er.
Beijing has considered various measures to reduce the hell, like imposing a congestion tax and observing World Car-Free Day once a year, which seems to be going swimmingly.
Though, i guess it’s all relative.
Golden Week is coming.
