A 26-year-old Shaanxi man was forced to serve 15 days administrative detention after he tested positive for drug use due to some tainted noodles he’d been served at a restaurant, Hua Shang News reports.
Liu Ju had cold noodles at Changcheng Town and drove back home carrying six bags of crude oil, according to the report. He was stopped by police at Wujing Highway and taken back to the station for a urine test.
The test results were positive, but Liu had insisted that he didn’t take drugs. The police didn’t believe him, and he was punched by one of the officers and forced to admit that he was a drug addict, landing him 15 days in detention.
Liu’s family later found that the restaurant he patronized had been putting drug powder inside the cold noodles, and reported the news to police. The restaurant owner explained that he used drug powder as seasoning to enhance the taste of the cold noodles. He ate his homemade noodles as well to prove that his urine test would come out positive. He was detained for 10 days afterwards.
The report noted that the the police did not give a proper explanation for detaining the restaurant owner, and that the officers failed to even offer an apology to Liu.
In May, a Shanghai restaurant owner was sentenced to 10 months in prison for adding addictive poppy seed powder in sauces and soups to make them more aromatic and delicious.
